Meals on Wheels Holiday Card Making Event - November 13, 2011

About the Event...

On November 13, 2011 ABC volunteers got together at Meals on Wheels of San Francisco to create holiday cards to go in care packages provided to home bound senior citizens over the holidays in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our volunteers were able to let their creativity loose in this fun and creative volunteer event. Using construction paper, glue sticks, colored markers and some holiday sprit we designed and put together holiday cards for Meals on Wheels clients and also learned a lot about this amazing and vital non-profit. Meals on Wheels provides meals to home bound senior citizens in San Francisco. By the end of 2011, Meals on Wheels of San Francisco will have delivered 990,590 meals to home bound senior citizens in our community, and that is only during one year! This amazing organization has been providing meals to the elderly for over 40 years in San Francisco. They also provide social work services and coordinate with other local agencies that refer clients to the program. By the year 2030 1 in 5 residents of San Francisco will be 60+ and the number of seniors 85+ will double - as you can see this is a much needed resources in our area and ABC is hoping to continue to volunteer at Meals on Wheels events for years to come.

If you couldn't make it to the event and want a fun activity to do with friends or family this holiday season, you can make holiday cards for Meals on Wheels and mail them to: Danie Belfield, Meals on Wheels San Francisco, Inc., 1375 Fairfax Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94124. Let them know you are sending them as an ABC volunteer. The only requirements are that they are hand made (as opposed to store bought) say "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings" (as opposed to religion specific greetings) and that they are signed "Your friends at Meals on Wheels" (please do not sign your name to the cards). Cards should be approximately 6" by 5" when folded. These personalized cards mean a lot to the people that receive them and are a great way to warm someone's heart this holiday season.
